Important Guidelines

  • Tajikistan shares a 150km border with Pakistan through the Wakhan Corridor — one of the world's most remote and spectacular borderlands. Pakistani trekkers regularly cross into Tajikistan via this ancient trade route, making it a uniquely accessible destination for adventurous Pakistanis.
  • The Pamir Highway is routinely listed among National Geographic's and Lonely Planet's top adventure journeys in the world. Travelling through high-altitude deserts, yurt camps, glacial valleys, and ancient caravanserais is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
  • Tajikistan's Iskanderkul Lake — named after Alexander the Great (Iskandar in Persian) — is a stunning turquoise alpine lake surrounded by dramatic peaks, approximately 2 hours from Dushanbe. It is ideal for day-trippers and short trekkers.
  • Dushanbe, Tajikistan's capital, has transformed significantly in recent years with wide boulevards, modern hotels, excellent restaurants serving Tajik cuisine (shashlik, plov, qurutob), and a vibrant bazaar scene. It is a surprisingly pleasant city for a few days of exploration.
  • Altitude sickness is a real concern on the Pamir Highway, where passes reach over 4,600 metres. Pakistani travellers from high-altitude regions (Gilgit-Baltistan) generally acclimatize better, but all visitors should ascend gradually, stay hydrated, and carry appropriate medication (acetazolamide/Diamox) as a precaution. CFD Travel's pre-departure briefing includes detailed altitude safety guidance.
  • CFD Travel specializes in adventure visa services including Tajikistan e-visas and GBAO permits. Our team is familiar with the specific requirements and nuances of the application portal, ensuring your documents are submitted correctly the first time.

Application Process

Our streamlined process to get your visa approved.

01

Consultation & Itinerary Planning

Begin with a consultation with CFD Travel. We assess your travel plans — particularly whether your route includes the Pamir Highway or GBAO region, which requires a separate permit. We provide a complete document checklist, cost breakdown, and realistic timeline for your Tajikistan e-visa application.

02

Document Preparation

Prepare all required documents: passport scan, digital photograph, bank statement, flight reservation, hotel bookings, and travel insurance. All documents should be in digital format (JPEG/PDF) for the online e-visa portal. CFD Travel reviews everything for quality and compliance before submission.

03

E-Visa Application & GBAO Permit (if applicable)

CFD Travel submits your e-visa application through the official Tajikistan e-visa portal (evisa.tj). If your itinerary includes the GBAO/Pamir region, we simultaneously apply for the GBAO permit. The application fee is paid online by credit/debit card. No embassy visit is required.

04

Application Processing (3-5 Business Days)

Standard e-visa processing takes 3-5 business days. For urgent cases, an expedited option (1-3 days) may be available for an additional fee. CFD Travel monitors your application and notifies you of approval or any requests for additional information.

05

Receive, Download & Print Your E-Visa

Your approved e-visa is emailed as a PDF. Print it clearly and carry it with your original passport. The e-visa is a single document that border officials will scan electronically at the port of entry. The GBAO permit (if applicable) is usually printed on the same document or issued separately.

06

Pre-Departure Briefing & Travel Tips

CFD Travel provides a comprehensive pre-departure briefing: border crossing procedures (particularly for land borders from Afghanistan or China), altitude sickness precautions for the Pamirs, local currency (Tajik Somoni), connectivity, road conditions on the Pamir Highway, emergency contacts, and what to expect at border checkpoints. We want you fully prepared for this extraordinary adventure.

Frequently Asked

Clear answers to common questions about Tajikistan visa.

Can Pakistani nationals visit Tajikistan?

Yes! Pakistani passport holders are eligible for a Tajikistan e-visa. Pakistan and Tajikistan share a small border in the Wakhan Corridor and enjoy warm diplomatic relations. Tajikistan is particularly popular among Pakistani trekkers and adventure travellers due to its proximity and cultural similarities. CFD Travel has extensive experience processing Tajikistan e-visas for Pakistani clients.

What is the Tajikistan e-visa fee?

The official Tajikistan e-visa government fee is approximately USD 50 for a single-entry visa (subject to change — always verify on evisa.tj). If a GBAO permit is required for the Pamir region, there may be an additional fee. CFD Travel's service fee is separate and covers the complete application preparation and submission process.

What is the GBAO permit and do I need one?

GBAO stands for Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast — the vast eastern region of Tajikistan that includes the Pamir Highway, Wakhan Corridor, Ishkashim, and borders with Afghanistan and China. If your itinerary includes any of these areas (which it almost certainly will if you're doing the Pamir Highway), you MUST have a GBAO permit in addition to your e-visa. CFD Travel will confirm whether you need one based on your specific travel plans.

What is the Pamir Highway and why is it famous?

The Pamir Highway (M41) is one of the world's most iconic road trips — a 1,200 km route through the "Roof of the World" at altitudes of 3,000-4,655 metres. Passing through lunar landscapes, ancient Silk Road ruins, remote villages, turquoise lakes (Karakul Lake), and offering views of 7,000m peaks, it is a bucket-list experience for adventurers. The highway connects Dushanbe to Osh in Kyrgyzstan and can be partially or fully driven over 5-10 days.

Is Tajikistan safe for Pakistani tourists?

Tajikistan is generally safe and very welcoming to Pakistani visitors. The country shares cultural, linguistic (Persian/Dari), and religious (predominantly Sunni Muslim) affinities with Pakistan. Pakistani travellers often report being treated with exceptional warmth. The main safety considerations are altitude sickness in the Pamirs and road conditions on mountain routes — both manageable with proper preparation. Areas near the Afghan border require heightened caution and current advisories should be checked before travel.

What language is spoken in Tajikistan?

The official language is Tajik (a dialect of Persian/Farsi), which has close similarities to Dari — spoken by many Pakistanis, particularly from Gilgit-Baltistan and KPK. Russian is also widely spoken as a second language, particularly in Dushanbe. English is limited outside of tourist areas, so having a Tajik/Persian phrasebook or translation app is helpful.

What currency is used and how affordable is Tajikistan?

Tajikistan uses the Tajik Somoni (TJS). As of 2024, 1 USD ? 10.9 TJS. Tajikistan is extremely affordable — accommodation ranges from USD 10-30/night in guesthouses, meals cost USD 3-8, and local transport is very cheap. The Pamir region has limited ATMs, so carry sufficient Somoni (and some USD as backup) before heading into the mountains. Cash is king outside of Dushanbe.

What is the best time to visit Tajikistan?

The best time to visit is from late May to early October. June-September is ideal for the Pamir Highway and trekking, with passable roads and warm daytime temperatures (though nights at altitude can still be very cold). The Wakhan Corridor is best visited July-August. Winter (November-April) brings heavy snowfall, road closures in the Pamirs, and extremely cold temperatures — generally not recommended unless specifically winter trekking.

Can I combine Tajikistan with neighbouring countries?

Absolutely — Tajikistan is perfectly positioned for multi-country Central Asian tours. Popular combinations include Tajikistan + Kyrgyzstan (via the Pamir Highway to Osh), Tajikistan + Uzbekistan (via Samarkand or Termez — the ancient Silk Road route), and Tajikistan + Afghanistan (Wakhan Corridor — for very experienced travellers with current advisories in mind). CFD Travel can arrange multi-country Central Asian itineraries on request.
