What is National Identity Card (NIC)?
It is a blend of state-of-the-art technology and well-defined business rules to guarantee its authenticity and validity. The unique 13 digit identification number is recognized all over the country. It is the first requirement of individuals as it is mandatory to obtain documents like license, NTN, bank account, passport, cellular connection etc. National Identity Card (NIC) is issued to the citizens of Pakistan. Every citizen of Pakistan, 18 years and above is eligible for NIC.

You can apply for your NIC for renewal by either visiting NADRA Registration Center (NRC) or through CFD Online Service.
How long will it take from application completion to delivery?
There are two means in which a card can be delivered.
Through NRC
Normal – 31 days
Urgent – 23 days
Fast Track – 9 Days (Queue priority at NRCs for immediate processing)
Through Pak Identity
Application Processing – 7 days
Local Shipping in Pakistan – 2 days
International Shipping – 5 Days

How can I get myself cleared from “DUP” category?
A citizen obtaining two or more identity cards/certificates with different Identity Numbers is marked “DUP” in NADRA database. Once you apply for DUP clearance, one of your National Identity Card (NIC) will be retained while the other (duplicate) will be surrendered automatically. Citizen will have a choice to retain any one of his/her NICs/Certificates through an application made to National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA).
You can visit any NADRA Registration Center (NRC) and apply for “DUP” clearance.
The fee charged for this is Rs. 1000 and Rs. 10,000 for different particulars.
What is National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP)?
National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) is a registration document issued to an eligible citizen of Pakistan who lives or has reference abroad.
Any citizen of Pakistan can apply for NICOP and can travel to Pakistan without requiring a visa in case of dual nationality. Please note that Passport number is a mandatory pre-requisite in case of applying for NICOP of new born babies if they are born abroad.

How long will it take to Process and Deliver my ID card?
The card delivery and printing timelines depend on the application type selected. For the Normal category, the printing time of the card is approximately 31 days after approval by the case officer. Similarly, printing time for urgent and executive categories is approximately 23 and 7 working days respectively. If an application is submitted carefully along with complete documents, it will be approved in 48 hours. However, incomplete applications can take longer time and depends on the applicant’s reply to the case officer.
Further, during the COVID-19 pandemic situation, courier services operations are severely affected, therefore delays are expected during the dispatch of cards.

What is Family Registration Certificate (FRC)?
Family Registration Certificate (FRC) is a mean of being identified with your NADRA’s record. This provides the family composition. Please note that the Family Registration Certificate (FRC) helps in Embassy use mostly but cannot be used for any Legal requirement.
